Through-lines
If you have something to say, put it in a song.
Our studies will be tethered to these through-lines. Connected to their academic studies, we seek to offer a deeper understanding of cultures and perspectives.
Fifth Grade - Freedom and Independence: In fifth grade, as they navigate the history of the United States, we will seek the importance of driving these themes through music. With or without lyrics, music can become a platform for establishing and sustaining independence.
Sixth Grade - Leadership and Voice: In sixth grade, we will attend to the musical leaders and how they used their influence to inspire nations, create change, and become part of the fabric of American History.
Seventh Grade - Promoting Dignity and Peaceful Solutions: During this pivotal year, we seek to maintain love for one's self and pride, coupled with the humanity and dignity it takes to promote peace. Whether within circles of friends or within the larger community, our natural and inevitable disagreements and conflicts must be met with intentions of peace and understanding.
Eighth Grade - Empowerment: These students are asked to lead Friends Academy and show the best versions of themselves. In music, we will continue to focus on social justice, human rights, and equality to remind them of their role in society. With a strong foundation of empathy, these students can grasp and tackle these issues. Music will continue to provide the vehicle for change, our responsibility to it, and the courage it takes to do so.
